The new Money Mark is super-dope, no matter what other members on this list
are saying. Maybe just because it's experimental and takes some chances,
they can't deal with it, but that's being rather shortsighted, if you ask me.
I suppose that maybe acid jazz fans are getting a little too used to Singing
A Simple Song. Hey! Underground music is never easy to categorize at first,
and that's why it thrives. When people start thinking that any genre should
be a certain way and that way only, then it begins to die. I hope Acid Jazz
hasn't gotten that way so soon... But Mark's stuff is beyond Acid Jazz
anyways, so I'll get on with things.
Mark does everything on the record, from superfunk to 70s police chase shit
to acid vocal rock, and he does it well. Incredibly well. I would seriously
suggest checking it out again. It's unpretentious, deeply soulful and
fucking brilliant. I wasn't too into it at first, but it's grown on my like
some unknown disease... that I don't want to get rid of!
Curse the non-believers!
