Yeah, I saw it and I thought it was really well done. Of course they left out a
lot. They only had 60 minutes to cover the entire history of '70's black music.
I mean, they spent like 3 minutes on Marvin Gaye, who is a legendary soul
singer, 30 seconds on Stevie Wonder, and 10 seconds on the Ohio Players. I
think they did a great job in showing who were the innovators (James Brown, Sly
& the Family Stone, Funkadelic), and how what they were doing was different from
what went before (Motown vocal groups). I think for the folks on the list like
yourself, it may be dissapointing because our focus is more on rare grooves of
the '70's, and not Top 40 of the '70's, which is what the show was all about. I
have enjoyed every episode of the Rock & Roll series I have seen so far and look
forward to visiting their web page (http://wgh.pbs.org [I think]).

Last night, one hour of the 10 hr series "rock and roll" was on early 70's
funk. Did anyone catch it? They began with James Brown, then Sly and the
Family Stone, and then spent about 30 minutes on Parlament-Funkadelic and a
few minutes on disco. I was disappointed that some of the best funk of
that era wasn't even mentioned. Overall, the show left me a little flat.
