Well, I've put much thought to this crossing of musical genre's in the
past since I cross quite a few myself...including the Dead. I've been a
big fan of their music for quite sometime and normally don't mind
admitting so. However, one has to be open to the generalizations that go
along with it. I don't really consider myself a deadhead, but then just
like "Acid Jazz", what is a "deadhead". I'm not going to even touch that,
but everyone has their own opinions so you catch my drift. I just
know many people generalize that Deadheads don't bathe or shave or
something, wear tye-dyes, drop acid, etc. Yet everyone that I've ever kept
company with would not fall under that generalization. It's really about
one thing..the music..that's all there ever was in it for me. It's just
really unfortunate that it's so big that the people in an attempt to
create an indentity helped form that generalization because I think
many Acid Jazz fans would be truly amazed by a live performance by the Dead.
The same thing happens with many different genres, you just have to break
past that barrier of generalizations, open your mind, and listen to the
music. The music is everything.....
