Question: this has been posted before - if anyone knows about copyrighting songs or could point me to a good resource on this topic I would be very appreciative. I would like to go a little further than the send-it-to-yourself certified mail method.

More importantly, the next two-three weeks are surprisingly full of good NYC shows.

September 3: An evening of sonic experimentation with DJ Spooky at the Westbeth Theatre.

September 5: Big night! Jazz vs. Beats. At SOB's, Giant Step presents the James Taylor Quartet and Groove Collective. At the Roxy, a line up of Orbital, Goldie, Money Mark, DJ Shadow & James Lavelle. Why did they both have to happen on the same night???

September 6: Quango & Axiom soundclash @ the Kitchen. Featured artists include Rahzell the Godfather of Noise from the Roots, some of the DJ's on the Altered Beats compilation, Quango DJs, and DJ Nickodemus from Giant Step.

September 7: Soundlab returns. I've been waiting for two months. Call 212-726-1724 for location sometime near party time.

September 17: Charlie Hunter Quartet @ Tramps.

album review: DJ Cam - Underground live act. Featuring most of the songs from his album "Underground Vibes", this album is fantastic & seemingly well-distributed. It will appeal to the hip hop fan who likes his beats thumping and hard. I was expecting a little more live stuff (the only instruments involved are piano and vibes, and they appear sporadically). It seems that Cam is scratching & cutting his own records, with a few effects thrown into the mix, but the songs are so good and the beats so solid that it's worth the purchase, even if you own the other album (and especially if you like it!)

Also wanted to give props to CK Smart's article in Straight, No Chaser #37 on the Solesides crew. Fantastic!!! All my 'real hip hop' questions were answered.
