i just picked up the latest jhelisa ep-language electric. i haven't always been too happy with
the remixes of her work, but this release is consistently deep and
consistently dark, and is a great return to more electronic sounds after
her last acoustic ep. language electric reminds me of the track she did
with mondo grosso--give me a reason; language electric, though, is far
more lush. there are two mixes in additional to the original of
electric language and an instrumental track (jhelisa wrote the music,
arranged the horns) with Matt Cooper of Outside on the piano. i had high
expectations about this release, and was still more than impressed with
the heavy, washed-over beats, and ambient ramblings, which weave
organically around jhelisa's swampy-soul high-spirit vocals. The
instrumental track is a great piece of Dorado collaboration, making me
miss Outside even more.
