One day jazz just made sense to me. The day before it was a
confusing mess, tones of annoyance conspiring against me and my "sane" train
of focus;
Ever since this one day...

I can listen to jazz and be happy.
I can listen and converse fluidly between my own thoughts.
I can visualize what is obvious through solos, not words.
Pictures are painted so much more radically and freely.

Acid-Jazz was introduced to me originally as what was going on "in the
back room". The venue was the Cameron house on queen st. in Toronto,
wednesday nights (i'm fairly sure).
Being emmersed more in a hip-hop and reggae community (kensington
market) and being actively involved in a militant anti-racist squad
(ANTI-RACIST ACTION) I did little more than acknowledge this group of
"sweaty, shiny, slightly older (white) kids" who danced and played *EVERY*
seeming instrument on stage (nov92-may93 I was 17).
I must say that if I were in a dream and back in that seat in the
cameron bar, I would wander into the backroom and wade into th sea
("EVERYBODY LOVES THE SUNSHINE!!!").
Was anyone a "sweaty, shiny slightly older (white) kid", in essence,
from that wed.night backroom scene? I would love to know what it was like!

DJKRUSH - self titled LP

This CD I purchased used last summer (the summer I had 2 1200's and
a NUMRK1775a ripped off!). "HEY WHAT's NEW? I NEED SOME SUMMER MUSIC.
SOMETHING TO DIG., DIG?" I offered the man from LooneyTunes, "THIS IS A
JAPANESE DJ/BEAT FANtIC. KRuSH, feeL THIS! ...
"Keeping the motion"
I bought the CD on the spot. I was surrounded by KruSHS music.
Even when it wasn't on my speakers or in my headfones it was in my head. I
wanted to share it with everyone.
I believe this to be a truly serious starting point for me as a
potential jazz musician "a la turntables". "I MEAN I CAN PLAY HARP, BLoW
SOME notes FROM A TRUMPET and *HUMMM!*".
Humming seems to be everyones way of doing their own solos within a
jazz song. MY aspirations were to convert my fine humming abilities and
miix it with my strange ability to convert sounds and riffs off of records
with my mixer and turntables. They were later stolen and I suffered a great
deal and fucked myself, I owe 1500$ for a failed attempt at university.
"GIANT STEPS volume 1" I found this CD while at university in the CD
library of CFRU.
"Masterplan" had become some what of a cornerstone in my
"ROMANTIC" type listening/dreamy music lifestyle. My wake-up show then
began to get much more fun.
Unfortunatly I dropped out of school, lost the show and stopped
taking care of myself for a while.
About 4 months ago I just AWOKE! I quit smoking, going out and
wasting money on beer afer overpriced beer @ the same spots having the same
experiences with the same people... I started jogging and thinking in the
realm of the possible again!
I have an addictive type personality. My money is easily spent on
"fRESH lOOKING" records (currently looking for p-nutbuttr.wulf's picture
12"). fRESH in THEORY.. intriguing.
I found a pair of "realistic" turntables and a case for 75 bucks! I
bought a mixer (battlemaster-citronic LIME GREEN!) and with my carpentry
knack (and my fathers help) from installing windows and doors for 6 months,
I mounted all my records Above my turntables. WOAH!
I feel a change in music. I believe in the diverse sound, the
focussed sound and definitely the jazz sound.

Records sitting in my "REORDS IN ROTATION BOX" beside each
turntable include...
"Tribe Called Quest" 1st record - Peoples
instinct. "DJ SHADOW" Endtroducing
"PARLIAMENT" Mothership connection
"Malcolm X" No sell out
"DJ GREYBOY" greybreaks vol.1

I am considering swapping my collection and console for a loaner
mountain bike to take with me to bARBADOS. I hope to go for @ least a
couple of months (with my family on a UNIVERSITY liason TOPSECRET kinda
trip) in the new year.
I am excited about what the new year has to offer for me (DEADLY
PLANS MAN!).
I Don't have a CD player so when you suggest some records
for me to check out, try to suggest record player friendly versions..
I hope this letter has found it's way to the right people.
I would love to be active in any other jazz scene based lists or
accesible movements.
Have to go shopping, I have a day off! The
window installing business freezes...to
a halt in this time ofthe year..DIG.
