Marc,

The only other company that comes to mind is Instinct Records. I am pretty
certain that they do accept unsolicited demos. I don't have their address, but
you can probably get it off of one of their acid jazz compilation albums. They
are based in New York City.

There are a couple of other labels I can think of, but I don't know their
submission policy. Truthfully, just sending in a demo without a contact at the
label is a one in a million shot. Many labels do not accept unsolicited demos
for legal reasons (i.e. they don't want to get sued for stealing songs). If you
know somebody at a label who happens to like your music, your chances are much
better.

If you have web access, try http://www.reachint.com/business/business.html.
They have a listing of Major A&R execs and Independent record companies.

Also, I know there are people on the acid jazz list who work for Delicious
Vinyl, Warner Bros, Ubiquity, Perspective, Eighth Dimension, Mo' Funk, etc. I
think it would be helpful to you if some of those folks offered their input on
your question. Any takers?

Hi all,

After some major hassles with my computer, I think I'm back on-line. I was
having serious withdrawl symptoms for a while there.

I'm probably kidding myself here, but I've composed a few tracks and have
recorded them on cassette, and they're not as dreadful as I expected. So,
now I figure I've got nothing to lose by sending the tape off to a few
record companies - but, I need some suggestions on *which* companies.

If a label must be put on the music, I s'pose it could be called very dark
trip-hop. It's not slow and sparse - around 100 bpm and quite complicated.
Wall of Sound was my first thought, as well as Ninja Tune and (to a lesser
extent) Mo' Wax.

Can anyone suggest a few more companies in a similar vein. Postal addresses
would also be appreciated if you have them (anyone got an address for Mo' Wax?)

Thanks,

Marc.
