I would recommend Brazilica! on the Talking Loud label. This cd takes you
back to the beginnings of Bossa-Nova. Many of the 16 tracks were only
released in Brazil. Some of the artists featured: Tamba Trio,
Milton Nascimento, Elis, Sergio Mendes, Baden Powell, Joyce, Edu Lobo &
Jorge Ben. I picked it up in the UK, although I'm sure its available over
here and in Canada.

Luv N' Haight label have a disc called "Brazilian Thoroughfare - a
collection of brazilian flavoured jazz funk." This disc covers the German
fusion scene interpreting Brazilian jazz music in the 70's and early 80's.
I really didn't get a good sense of this cd when I listened to it. I'll
have to check it out again.

Blue Note, under EMI (I think) has a compilation out called "Blue Bossa - Cool
Cuts from the Tropic." Extensive liner notes on the artists (all Blue Note
Alumni, I believe) and song derivation. Recordings dating back to 1955.
Most of the tracks were recorded in the 60's. This cd is a combination of
bossa and bop.

Good Luck,
