people want to show the Jungle crowd what jazz is all about, or maybe it's just
that some artists feel the <112 BPM of most Acid Jazz is a bit too restricting

Aha- cashing in on two scenes at once! That's an interesting thought... sort of
like the AJ 12"s here that have hip hop and house mixes side by side (like the
latest Groove Collective). I suppose we in the US don't have much concept of how
huge the drum n bass phenomenon is in the UK, so the idea of putting a drum n
bass mix to 'cash in' is not as obvious. Makes sense to me now. A good point.

But I will still bring up releases like anything on the Creative Source label
that combine jazzy elements to jungle to create a blurred middle ground. I was
surprised, when reading up on this genre, how many of its creators have jazz
musicianship backgrounds (such as LTJ Bukem or the 4Hero folks). And, I suppose,
the complicated rhythms of this music lend themselves to a jazz format easily.
An obvious extension that is not immediately obvious. Interesting.

If you're not familiar with what I'm talking about, I suppose the most easy to
find (in the US) example would be the Goldie album. Check out "Sea Of Tears" for
its wonderful interplay of jazz guitar with the crazy drumwork.

P.S. An update on the Global Groove Summit... Smash wants me to tell all of you
out there that there will be a brochure coming out soon detailing the entire
summit, its mission, and what will be in store. If anyone wants a copy of this
brochure, e-mail me your postal address and I'll forward it to him. The Global
Groove Summit will be held Memorial Day weekend in May and is sizing up quickly
to be a major thing. There will even be some of this 'junglist jazz'
represented! Once again, though, I have nothing to do with the summit beyond
relaying information, so any questions you have for me will be forwarded to
those who are handling it, and they will be in touch. Below is the address and
numbers for the summit. Get involved if you can. PEACE X 2....
