I get a lot of requests from people who like to get a good compilation
of some style. Here's some recent findings:
- La Haine (soundtrack, DELABEL, 1995, 7243-8-40478-2-5)
A great movie, and a just a good soundtrack. Maybe someone of our
french list members can tell us more about it?
Anyway, the soundtrack contains some very good french rap (Sens Unik,
Mc Solaar, FFF, Iam & Daddy Nuttea, etc.) and is perhapes the best
french album I have. Definitely worth checking out!
- The story of Mo'Wax (2CD comp)
I got this one cheap, and it's the only reason I got it. I don't know
why, because the songs are all ok, but the compilation feels weak. No
way near the previous 'Royalities Overdue'. Still, a lot of good tunes
in one box... In total 15 long tracks.
- Late night sessions (Sound of Ministry, SOMCD4)
Ministry of Sound has a line of compilations showing the style of
music played at the club. This one is made by DJ Harvey (the sleeve
says he's a former percussionist of Jamiroquai?) and it's like all
Ministry productions rather strict house.
The compilation includes bands like D*Note, Batamania, DJ Food, St
Germain, Mondo Grosso - so it's bearable even if you're not a house
fan. 12 tracks.
A personal opinion; house is getting better all the time...
- Classic Jazz-Funk 6 (Mastercuts, CUTSCD 31)
The time has come for "the definite Jap-Jazz mastercuts". This is a
great compilation if you like the clean and clinical sound of, for
example, early Incognito. Great music to play in the bar.
12 tracks.
