Just thought I'd recommend a few new jazz albums, two Verve releases and
two Right Tempo records.
Pharoah Sanders - Message from Home (Verve)
Pharoah rules! This is the best album he's done in years.Of course his
playing has always been sensational but on this album he also got the
material and the sidemen to prove it. A must-have!
Monday Michiru - Jazz Brat (Verve)
Now, Monday is my girl! This is a record to fall in love with. Passionate
and jazzy club soul that brings a little warmth into your life.
Quintetto X - Novo Esquema da Bossa (Right Tempo)
This is a real summer album if there ever was one. These guys (and gals)
swing like crazy in a italo-brazilian way. High class own material as well
as superb covers (Shepp, Silver, Valle, among others).
Fez Combo - Follow the Spirit (Right Tempo)
You really can't choose between Quintetto X and fez Combo, you gotta have
both! Fez Combo's album is a little bit more jazzy (in the classic sense of
the word) but equally funky.
