I just read the last few messages of this thread, so apologies if I'm
repeating anything someboy else said. Mondo Grosso, as far as I know,
plays straight up soul/jazz-funk. I haven't heard anything from the past
year, but I have an album they did a few years ago. It was okay at best.
Takemura on the other hand is a fine, fine producer. Unlike many other
producers, Takemura is still pumping out very jazzy/latin influenced
tracks. I've been playing his first Mo Wax release ever since it came
out, and people still come up to me asking what the smooth shit is. Check
out some of the Silent Poets stuff, too. Dope. There is a web sight where
you can check some if this stuff out. I think they've got it listed on
the record links on the Acid Jazz server.
UFOs Jazzin has been out for a few years, now, but again, still the shit.
Its an EP, with about five cuts, some of which appear twice remixed. They
even did a Van Morrison song on it (its dope, really). What is it about
that Japan flavor? They've been true to jazz through the whole
progression of this "movement", which to me is admirable. "Keep it real,"
right? Anyways, I'm out. Peace-
Bubblicious
