yeah, but i must say that the aesthetics differ somewhat between those who
have been mentioned (orbital, chem. bros.) and bands like PTV or Skinny Puppy
-- where shock value plays an important part in the overall concept of the
live shows, and anyone who's read the classic book by the duo behind REsearch,
"the Industrial Culture Handbook," can readily attest to the underlying theme
of transgression and cultural subversion through the manipulation of sound,
body, mind, and performance. this dimension of industrial culture inherently
lends itself to more dynamic performances (think early Throbbing Gristle).

that, having been said, makes me think that what is missing from the likes of
chem. bros. et. al. is a general lack of interest in taking their music
further into the realm of sight (as well as *performance*). i can easily
conceive of a collaboration between musicians, dancers, graphic
designers/video artists, and clothing designers where the ultimate product
could be this massive integrated event of visuals and sound (and even audience
interactivity). this is by no means a new idea. not only have there been a
few CDi or CD+ releases (namely PitchShifter (anybody got a review??)), a few
months back i read in Mixmag about English graphic designers-turned-musicians
and other artists who are realizing the potentials of integrating the visual
and audio cultures......get with it chemicals! and give the people what they
want.
