The existence of this edginess of the day is reflected in the turn that the large majority of releases in our broad genres have taken. The electronic side of acid jazz & jungle is music marketed for headz (heads), whereas the vibe of the happy BNH type stuff is clearly for the heart, and even marketed as such in many cases.
You can probably even make a case for why: technological creation versus spontaneous live jamming. One is clearly more mental and one more emotional.
I believe, however, that anyone's edginess probably results more from an unhappy or tense mind than because it's the in thing. Sorry if that sounds like yet another flame, but it's the truth.
