AJ support in US

Hello All,
I haven't posted in forever either but this new thread is rather
interesting. Allow me to offer my two cents...
I agree with both Matt and Caron on the state of AJ and similar
music in the States. There is a definite need to put together more
festivals and the like. As for getting the word out I agree that we in
the US are sorely lacking the info and means of information distribution,
ie. SNC, although I do see URB come through here, as well as the Rap Pages.
These mags do a good job but I think that people are not that open to the
experimental and often raw sounds of the more abstract music. On the
other hand the examples of the Fugees latest hit as well as Belizehba who
is rockin around the east coast would illustrate the potential of this
genre.
From my perspective I am always amazed( and happy for my ears) at the way
that this music grows in Europe and Japan. What are the reasons for this?
Is it the purely profit driven labels? Well I would venture to say that Mo Wax and
Ubiquity are constantly producing quality material. Well then are we then
left with a porr group of people who don't look past the mediocrity of
MTV music selections?
I don't think that is accurate either, for the members of this
list constantly give good tips on the music info.
Anyway I'll end this meandering nonsense by giving a shout out to
those on the list for keeping the word flowing!
