Beyond Hip-Hop (Re: trip-hop silliness)

Beyond Hip-Hop? Sure! It's gonna have to happen sometime. Hip-Hop as we
know it will go away, but there's NO doubt that the key elements of it
will be around forever (i.e. No one makes rock songs that sound like
"Rock Around The Clock" anymore, but people are still making music with
electric guitars, etc.)

What's next? I think the future will be, IMHO, world/ethnic music fused
with hip-hop/youth dance music elements. It's so obvious, with hip-hop
music having at least some form of popularity in other countries. Examples?
In the U.S., specifically in cities with large Latino communities,
they're fusing hip-hop with salsa and other forms of Latin music, heck, even
Tejano music (if you want to know what I'm talking about, when in Los
Angeles, check out the band Ozomatli). In the UK, the "Asian" youth (in the
US, they're called "South Asians" ior "Asian Indians") have Bhangra, which
correct me if I'm wrong is sort of a mixture of techno/house/jungle/hip-hop
with traditional music from India. And I think all that is only the tip
of the iceberg. Personally, I've even been experimenting with Trip-Hoppish
tracks in my home studio with samples from traditional Philippine music, just to
see what it sounds like.
