Hearty greetings to all. I've intermittently followed your archives for a
year or so and I finally summoned the wherewithall to contribute.

Insinct's fifth comp - "livin in the land of hi-fi" (great name) is
spinning. Based on what I've read of your list, I feel like somewhat of a
lightweight in the arena but my love for this stuff spurs me to words.

I'll spare you my desert island discs. I'm 41 today (6/26), married 15
years, 7-year old son, High School Macintosh Lab manager 60 miles north of
NYC. I first started buying this music about two years ago after hearing
The CFM band's snare hits on _Hold Me Tight_ in a local Rhino Records. I
don't have any jazz or urban roots: 70's metal, 80's and 90's jangle rock
were mainstays with some dabbling in funk, world & blues. My AJ tastes tend
to be a little picky; I either like a cut or I don't. But... when a song
connects, it reaches in and grabs my guts. I find AJ the most spiritually
moving music music I have ever encountered, with the extra added bonus of
moving my ass. Your recent threads on Sade sent me to the rack for the best
of CD which then sent me naddin 'round the living room.

To any members still on the list who contributed to the "Why We Love Music"
thread on the web site, a book reccomendation: _The Memory of Whiteness_ by
Kim Stanley Robinson. A sci-fi novel touching some of the chords you hit
and taking the theme of musical universality to incredible places. There's
a reveiw here: http://www.scifi.com/sfw/issue15/books.html#mw. A great
read, as were your musings on the soundwaves that intrigue all of us on the
Mothership crew. (Mail from someone so inclined explaining how to embed
live links in my mail would be greatly appreciated!)

To Carl: Picked up Maxwell's Urban Hang today. It oozes out de speakers and
slides up yer pants. Today's personal pick from the sticks: Gazelle, _Time
Will Tell_ (Marina MACD 93369). European, clean, tight, touch of latin,
angelic vocals, sometimes a bit heavy on rock guitar solos but most
definitely gets my clock tickin'!

My subscribe is sent with this post and I promise to always send my unsub
messages to all of you. Contributions may be spotty but I'll try to keep
up. I look forward to joining the mix.

Finally, I 'd like to confirm my understanding of the phrase "to give props
to someone or something". Someone enlighten me.
