And that goes for you, Matt, because I'd like to buy some of those CD's
you've got on sale...
And that goes for you, Gene, so i can drop you that line (thx for the
respect!)...
As for the Stevie Wonder thread, to answer Elson's Grammy question: D'Angelo
sang a medley of several which wound into and out of each other starting
with Superstitious. And speaking of...I vote second with whomever it was
that "Talking Book" (which contains Superstitious) would be the best acid
jazz choice. But the other four listed (including Innervisions) are also
musts. My true favorite, though it gets a little wacky and strange in
places, is still "The Secret Life of Plants" which came after all the
funkiest stuff. It is one of those rarities in this world: a perfectly
realized concept album with a beginning, middle and end -- the most creative
and spiritual I believe he has ever been, yet all based on the topic of
plants to keep it focused. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, though.
My band just released a cover of Stevie's "Jesus Children of America" on
our CD, which is getting some local airplay here and making some waves
because we revised it quite a bit -- and some one at a label here actually
called me to tell me how much he hated it and how dare I redo a Stevie
Wonder tune! I said it wasn't meant as an insult. Jeez.
