I think I'd have to be a 'no' voter, as well. And for purely selfish reasons.

I like this list because it seems to be made up of people who are quite
'into' Acid Jazz. This list is a bit harder to find and subscribe to than a
newsgroup, and therefore members of this list tend to be those who like this
sort of music * enough* to make the effort to join in the first place.

A newsgroup can be accessed by anyone who is just strolling by, and, as
Jason said, the list address will doubtlessly end up posted to the
newsgroup. And the list will simply become an extension of the newsgroup.

It's hard to say this without sounding snobby or elitist, but I think of the
list as a place where *real* fans of the music congregate. Advanced AJ
listeners, I s'pose. I learn something every day from this list, and I feel
I'm able to participate knowledgeably in most discussions. If an AJ
newsgroup started I think it wouldn't be long until the whole tone of both
the newsgroup, and the list, would be diving toward the commercial end of
things, and it would be hard to start up a conversation about The Mighty
Bop, for example, or what's new on Wall of Sound.

I'd like things to stay just as they are.

Marc.

PS. alt.music.funky is there, and has a healthy AJ contribution.
