that's if you're listening to the funky/hard-bop of the period, which is what
i was trying to get at (e.g. "my point of view" feat. "blind man, blind man").
there were other things going on though, coltrane, dolphy, miles/gil evans...

by then it was more in line w/what pop music was doing. i find the earlier
stuff holds up better.
