Some news from France:
I recently picked up the Foxy Lady EP by L'homme qui valait les trois
milliards (aka La Funk Mob), and it's great; in the same vein, perhaps
a bit more housy, coming from France, are I:Cube EP on Versatile
Records (with a remix by Daft Punk, which is becoming more and more
famous here), and the Trankilou EP on BPM records (for those who know
the shop in Paris, it's the same, BPM now runs a small label): four
tracks, from house to instrumental hip hop, quite nice. Daft Punk are
very much in demand these days; their hit was definately "Da Funk",
and since they remix here and there, and I even read in an interview
that La Funk Mob are looking for them to remix some tracks!:)
Out these days on Yellow Productions is Dimitri's LP "Sacrebleu", with
first single "Dirty Larry".
Next single on Artefact: Daphreephunkateerz, "Bring da funk EP", with
a remix by La Funk Mob and another by Erik Rug and Aleph.
If someone here in Paris is on the list, then il y a deux soirees Big
And talking about AJ seads, I once heard in a bar a very nice version
of Hancock's Chameleon; I only know the original version and the big
band version on one of the Rebirth of Cool comps. I don't really
remember the one I heard, only that I did'nt know it, and perhaps it
was another big band or so setting, but I'm not sure of it... Anybody
know other versions of this famous tune?
Thanks
Daniel
