As the "new-releases-of-the-wee-list" already told, the LP by Dimitri,
"Sacrebleu", is out on Yellow Productions. It is all built up around a
mid-50s image of Paris seen from America, with very funny samples in
french of chic Madames talking about their make-up and such (there is
also a picture of "Monsieur Dimitri relaxing in his french riviera
"pied a terre":); the sound is in an easy vein, some little
reminiscences of Dimitri's previous work, with a few house beats and
the more tr*p-h*ppy "reveries", but all together a funny thing that
sounds like a walk in St Germain des Pres in 1958. It is actually my
first "easy listening" piece (apart from some S. Mendes stuff, but
that was not ment to be easy at the time, I guess), and it struck me
to hear how much of the rythmic parts of the tunes have a strong
flavour of UFO's "U.F. Airlines". My fear is that this disc plays the
role of a gadget, being funny only for a week; time will tell... and I
must admit that I have to educate my ear as well to the easy sound,
these simple melodies played with "non-funky" sounds... Alltogether
anyway a very well done work, it's just my taste that has to learn I
think. I'm doing a presentation of the disc at
http://cermics.enpc.fr/~dh/yellow/sacrebleu.html
(still under construction)
On another tip, the SourceLab vol. 2 IS in project, I don't know
though when it'll be out. One of the featured tracks will be Daft
Punk's "Music", which is very good.
