Well, you got a great deal... I'm in New York, and Meters records go for a
lot of money here (at the kind of stores that specialize in rare records)
but since I don't shop at those stores (I just can't see blowing $40-$80 on
an old record I might be able to dig up in a Salvation Army or other thrift
store for less than a dollar.) The thing about classic soul/funk records is
that there are stores that specialize in those sorts of records and they
have INCREDIBLE selections, but due to the fact that SHITLOADS of
Japanese/European collectors are willing to pay big bucks for those
records, prices are really out of hand, and I don't like to support that
kind of bullshit artificial price inflation (also there's something
romantic about sorting through 100 albums in a dusty bin to find one gem
and to get it dirt cheap!)
<bitterness>
The same thing happened with classic Fender & Gibson guitars and basses in
the eighties, and now it's really hard to find a good Fender Jazz Bass for
less than $1500 (I bought mine back in '88 for $400 and it's the best bass
I've ever played.)
</bitterness)
Anyway my point is that old records go for far too much money IMHO...
