I did'nt think my including a light hearted joke at the end of a recent
sign off would generate so much fuss but like someone here said, some good
came of it. I don't know how many times I've had to explain my musical
tastes to others by saying that if x amount of people are into it there
must be a small kernal or percenage that is worthy listening. a friend
recently noted the kind of stuff he's been producing lately which included
drum n' bass and various types of house but when he mentioned techno he
stressed *Detriot* techno.
OK... now on to DJ Shadow. Given the status of experimental diety he
enjoys on this list I figured I'm gonna be run out of town for this one
but I brought Endroducing... back to the store. yes I *can* get with
experimental and electronic music to an extent and have loved some of the
stuff recommended on the list but not this. The intentional off beat parts
throughout annoys the hell out of me and there did'nt seem to be that much
which mitigated these annoyances. I tried listening numerous times
thinking that it would all sink in after a couple listens but no go.
I asked a DJ friend of mine who loved it to give me one good reason why I
should'nt take it back. he outlined all the amazing production tricks and
DJ skills. I say fine... it's maybe a good example to use if you're
deconstructing the piece on a technical level and are impressed but if I
can't sit and enjoy a piece of music at face value then screw it, I'm
getting my *THIRTY THREE* bones back and getting two replacments that
don't make me hit the eject button. Sorry but thats how I see it.
