I'm Brian. I've been hanging out on this discussion group for a week or
so, but this is my first posting.
About a year and a half ago I saw Dag. And it was a great show. I went
out, bought the tape, listened to it for quite a while. And then just
recently I was listening to Sly and the Family Stone. Which I hadn't
done in really long time. And I became totally disenchanted with Dag.
They basically ripped off the best of Sly and other great 60's and 70's
funk bands. And made Dag. It is good stuff, but I was pretty bummed to
realize how much they ripped off Sly.
They are from either North Carolina or South Carolina. Cant remember.
I'm pretty sure that they only have one release out.
On another note of disapointment. I saw Groove Collective last night. It
was the third time I've seen them. It was totally void of any energy.
When I saw them earlier this summer, I just loved it, they were on and
the energy was just *there*. But last night, it just seemed like they
didn't give a shit. The flute player, looked like he wanted to kill
someone. They were missing both trumpet and bone players, not to mention
the vibes player. I don't know. I just don't like attitude when I see
music. And there was a lot of it there last night. The bass player was
cool though. :)
