If you are looking for bands who are creating new styles of music, then
funk is not the place to look. Anyone who is doing straight-up funk in
the present day is obviously ripping off from somebody in the past. It is
impossible not to. But if you are worried about that then you are missing
the point. If the music is good. Then listen to it. I personally
appreciate Dag's sound because they do that style yet they do it pretty
well, with a refined quality, and they have good songs. A lot of other
bands have done basically the same thing (a lot of really famous bands I
might add) but not sounded nearly as good.

If you want to hook up with people who are more into funk though as
opposed to acid jazz (not that they don't overlap), you might try the
newsgroup rec.funky.music
There might be someone there who has more info about this band.
If you find any sites with tour info I would be interested also.
