Sorry Mark, but I've got to agree with Tyler. My gut feeling is that this is
a brilliant 12". Cleveland's vocals are nice and understated, put back in the
mix, and the tune itself is left to take over. When I first heard it I
thought that the Peshay remix was the better of the two but after listening
to it again I've changed my mind. The original blows you away with the
intensity of the drums whilst lulling you with the positive, mellow tune.
Anyway, what makes good drum and bass? Isn't it a very individual response
to the tune itself, not what the masses think?? For example, TPower's first
album received quite a slamming from the drum and bass community because a
lot of the beats weren't 'fast' enough for it to be classed as jungle. They
missed the point, which was that it was a great, great album and way ahead of
it's time. I think that the genre is constantly changing and evolving and
it's dangerous to measure tunes against any 'perfect' standard one because
who's to say what's good or crap for other people.
Can't wait for the forthcoming album on Dorado.
Peace,
Phil
