The problem with "groove", though, is that it's an oft-abused name synonym
for dance music in itself. The same goes for "jazz" ("Ooh! Kenny G
is my favorite jazz clarinet <sic> player!!!") and "funk" - as
demonstrated in that club tune, "The Funk Phenomenon"; it ain't funk! It's
just a repetitive beat with a reptitive sample that goes,
"Thefunkphenomenon...thefunkphenomenon.." ad infinitum (the song also
mercilessly samples a Cooly's Hot Box track BTW).
Bijan, you live here in the Los Angeles area, so I'm sure you've heard
"Groove Radio 103.1" - Well? I'm sure you've found out
that only 15-20% of their playlist resembles anything we discuss (Not to
knock that station totally, though, they do play a fair amount of Drum &
Bass, which I think is extremely cool). But the other 80-85% is the same
thud-thud-thud-thud house dribble. However, to their credit, they do list
"acid jazz" as one of the genres they play on the air (see
http://www.grooveradio.com").
