Don't be too sure -- Trouble Funk is still gigging in DC (or
at least they were up on flyers a few months ago). No idea how
healthy the scene is (it's always been primarily a DC thing,
except for that one brief flare of popularity via T. Funk and
E.U., and records are damn hard to come by outside of DC), but
I don't think it's dead. Any DC denizens want to comment?
If someone's looking to check out the sound, any of Trouble Funk's
live records are a super fine place to start. The soundtrack to
"Good to Go" is also pretty good (and representative of the scene
sound around that time); BTW, it's not a concert film per se; it
has the standard plot, etc. (and Art Garfunkle as, I think, a
music promoter -- it's been a while). Any of the DETT/TTED comps
are decent, too, although they're probably harder to find outside
of DC than the other stuff I've mentioned (which was all on Island,
and therefore had some wider distribution).
