glad to have you back -- here's my take on the show, though it's more=20
of a stab at who was who and when they went on...i sent this note to=20
Jay B after the show, but thought i'd post it to the list (though it=20
lacks any real "review" stuff)::=20
=20
we arrived just about 8:30 or so, there was a white guy DJing throwin'=20
down some wicked old school hip hop (ultramagnetic, jungle bros.) and=20
some new stuff as well-strictly hip hop...there were people=20
videoing/photographing him so he must have been "somebody." my guess=20
is that he was DJ Shadow -- if shadow has blond hair, that is. my=20
guess is, also, that james lavelle never showed b/c (assuming that=20
shadow was the first to go on and that he(lavelle)is a white guy and=20
believing what someone on the AJ list said about his never beat=20
mixing)...cuz the only white dj was the first guy....after money mark,=20
there was that jungle dj with "URB" on his t-shirt so maybe that was=20
pete tong(but no, pete's white!)....then the other guy came on after=20
him (in the red long sleeve soccer shirt and some gold necklaces),=20
experienced technical difficulties w/the turntables, and then ended up=20
in the DJ booth with spot lights on him -- i'm pretty sure that guy was=20
Goldie -- and it sucked that he didn't have his whole band there to do=20
a set which is why i went in the first place...he did do a good set=20
though (esp. that Adam F tune "circles") but it wasn't until i just=20
stood through his whole set and when orbital came on after rabbit on=20
the moon that i was pretty much convinced that that was Goldie and his=20
only appearance that night.=20
=20
after goldie, rabbit on the moon came on, with that hilarious guy=20
coming out in different guises and jumping around....one time he came=20
out with a ton of glow sticks strapped to himself and then proceeded to=20
throw them into the audience--it was cool to see a sea of people waving=20
them.=20
=20
i did enjoy rabbit and orbital, though my taste for early 90s techno=20
beats (read kick drum on the beat and syncopated hi-hat) and styles has=20
greatly waned. i mostly enjoyed the more trancey type compositions=20
rather than the full-on techno stuff and again, woe that i didn't get=20
to see goldie and his full on band doing live d-n-b.=20
