check the liner notes all, the samples they're using are of the band! as a
matter of fact, the drummer was concerned that people wouldn't think he was
on the album because the loops sounded "looped".
actually, i always thought it was funny that people were making a big deal
about the roots having a live band instead of loops/djs. a band i was in
(precursor to pmjq) had been doing that years ago because we didn't have a dj
(i didn't have access to a rig @ the time, and didn't know about beat
records). keep in mind that the first rappers that broke nationally (e.g.
kurtis blow, sugarhill gang) used live players in the studio...
