Just thought I'd send in a quick review of some local Australian product
that recently hit the shelves...
DJ Soup's album Souperloops (on Australian label Creative Vibes ... point
your web browser at http://www.zeta.org.au/~cvibes/ for their home page) is
definately worth checking out if you can get your hands on it. Soup fuses
togther snippets of all kinds of music to create his beats, and he does it
in a way that highlights both the differences and the connections between
the stuff he's sampling. The end result is funky, intelligent and funny as
well. So for me, this is a case where I'm glad we got the whole album ,
not just some singles. He's done some really interesting work with local
MCs like Sleek over here, so it's fun hearing him on his own creating some
even more complex grooves.
Apparently the album is even getting reasonable airplay on the national
'youth' radio network, Triple J - it's album of the week this week or
something. This can only be a good thing considering the way local beats
usually get swamped by overseas stuff over here.
Peace
Kurt
