Greetings Jazzlanders,

Give me more reviews! Y'all are slackin! What's up?
I'm gonna try to post at least 2 a week in the future, keeping it heavy on
the jazz.

CHeck this out!
--------------------------------------------------------------
Pierre Henry & Michael Colombier -- "Jericho Jerk" (remastered)
+remixes by St Germain and Funki Porcini
Label: Phillips (yes the electronics company)
---------------------------------------------------------------
I am not familiar with the original track from 1968, I know absolutely
nothing about it. i'm sure there are more knowledgable folks out there on
the list who can help me out here.
A brief description of the original Jericho Jerk would probably contain the
words "electronica" (whatever that means now) and "WAY old school modular
synthesizers." (read as wacky synth noises circa 1968) the original track
is sorta funky, early electronic with nice e-piano solos. Helps put the
remixes in context.

The Funki Porcini mix is a stretching interpretation of the original (read
as samples of wacky synth noises circa 1968) its better than other Porcini
stuff i've heard. This is not really my thing, but it is a solid jazz
flavored jungle track, without being too wimpy.

The St Germain mix--how can i say enough about this guy? Brilliant. house
with a LONG beat-less intro that sneaks nicely into the mix. same samples,
more solos! solid jazz-house stuff.

Black Jazz Chronicles (Ashley Beedle)
Label: Nuphonic (NUX116)
-------------------------------------
I love this label! i can't get enough of it!
This record has that Ashley Beedle-Black Science flavor all over it. 4
tracks on this one. "#1. "Straight Up" faster house track, nice and out
there. #2. "Snooky's Spirit" a weird fusionish thing. the chord progression
and drum patterns remind me of squarepusher, but slower, and the distorted
weirdness is replaced by nice live sounding drum loops. not dancable. #3.
"Space Prom" Housey percussive, black science flavor. #4. Guitar, mostly
beatless. nice.

peace,
-brandon
