This is something that I have to disagree with. Yes, Acid Jazz is about
groove and beat. . . but for me it is very much about harmony,
improvisation and creativity as well. How can you say "so what" to
chordal diversity, and dynamics. That is like saying food is about
eating and filling your stomach. . . "so what to interesting and subtle
flavors." I don't mean to be harsh but. . . coming from a *musicians*
perspective, I just don't understand your opinion. I think one of the
reason Steve (Chili) was liking jazz to acid jazz was because he was
tired of the rehash in jazz. The potentiality of acid jazz is an amazing
thing from my perspective as a jazz musician who has been waiting and
waiting for jazz to become a party music again.
I just saw the Greyboy All Stars last night. And it was great. What made
it great for me was that both my body and mind were moving.
Just my reaction.
