haven't had time to contribute to this whole discussion, but i wanted to
thank all for taking the time to write their views.. i've found everyones
views to be interesting and bring up good valid points..

elitism is a problem, common to lists in my opinion (idm is a nightmare)..
and tho i have my bouts with it myself, i've always had to say that its
what comes out of my speakers, in my own home, that i enjoy; and since the
radio is never on, it makes no difference how "mainstream" aj becomes..

if it gets "watered down" then its those "watered down" bands that won't
make my home playlist. and that's that. i'll purchase and play what i
like. that's not elitism or snobbery, its called being selective. and so,
the new chemical brothers won't enter my house, not cause its not good for
what it is, just because i don't enjoy their sound anymore...

as far as the "oh, wow, you like acid jazz? have you heard the chemical
brothers?" well, honestly, my reaction depends on my mood. (not that i'm
an excessively moody person, heheheh...) but it depends on the situation
and the person i'm dealing with.. sometimes i "want" to make the effort to
"educate" someone on music and at other times i just don't want to deal
with it and would prefer to go home and listen to funki porcini with my
cat.

so yeah, snobbery, originality, commercialism, and acid jazz. an ongoing
topic for discussion.. and one that changes from person to person, from
situation to situation and well.. yeah... just my 2 cents..
