I'm spoiled living in Hawaii. Many stores (including the good old .50 Goodwill
bins) still do not inflate prices of old funk/jazz records unless it's
historical (Charlie Parker or whatnot). So, I have the privilege of picking up
some real gems for only $2 - $8 . Many Japanese DJ's come through town just
for this purpose, which is why there can be really dry times. Nonetheless, the
"pool" is pretty limited because funk and soul was not very popular in Hawaii
during its time so I end up depending on other DJ's, military, or tourists to
drop their stuff off so I can swoop down and pick it up.
So, in conclusion, good luck and don't get ripped off by make-a-buck
"collectors".
