actually, a lot of bhangra uses other types of beats too (i.e. breakbeats).
the generally acknowledged master of this genre is bally sagoo. i hear his
"magic touch" is really good (remixes of nusrat fateh ali khan). you might
want to look for irs record's "what is bhangra" for a starter compilation.
also check out mango's "anokha--sound of the asian underground". while i
wouldn't feel comfortable calling it "bhangra" (it's mostly jungle w/an
indian or pakistani vibe), you should find it interesting. talvin singh is
prominently featured--somebody help me w/where we should know talvin from!

being from l.a. i can't really help you w/where to hear the stuff in a club,
maybe nickodemus or dylan could step in here (or qool marv...)
