Fused and Bruised are based in London and as I wrote in the Fly! article,
they are essentially one of the newest and strongest pretenders to the Big
Beat crown (check anything by Wall of Sound or Skint). You'll be able to find
a lot more about them at their website (the address is attached to the
article in Fly) and there are a load of 12" reviews in Fly. Unfortunately a
lot of their output has been limited to 2000 copies but I know that they are
planning to release a compilation of their tracks to date soon. Absolutely
essential releases of theirs include the Latinamyl series, which are fast and
furious driven Latin grooves given the big beat treatment by various F&B
artists.
On other Fly matters.... The Luke Vibert interview is NOW UP in Fly. The
SourceLab piece will be up very shortly. Also check the Dance music resource
piece which is offering the chance to win 10 new singles of your choice.
Forthcoming pieces in Fly will be on DJ Wally (I'm just writing it up now!!)
, DJ Vadim's Jazz Fudge label, and a mysterious Swiss label called Dot.
The Fly talk page has been bombarded with lil' kiddies goin' on about Bones
Thugs and Harmony. They seem to think that because we wrote a piece on the
band ages ago, that we ARE Bones Thugs and Harmony!! If there are any of you
out there who would like to contribute to a decent talk page on dance/beat
music and get the little kids off our page please, please bombard it with
interesting discussions.
On the mix tape review page we are having a little shake up, with ck Smart
joining the review team to report on the latest dope mix tapes from the
States. Of course, anyone who has sent me any tapes already will have their
tapes reviewed. I'm gonna cover the UK and European side of things, so if
there are any Euro/UK dj's out there who would like to see their stuff
reviewed please get in contact with me at phil@fly.co.uk or the above
address. CK can be reached at ck@om-records.com
Hopefully the new reviews will also go up in Straight No Chaser.
OK enough plugging!
peace and good vibes,
