(AUG. 9) WENN/P - American rapper KRS-ONE walked out on a
live
interview on Britain's biggest pop radio station RADIO
ONE after accusing it of
ignoring hip-hop culture and music.
KRS-ONE left the interview on this morning's (09AUG97)
One FM Rap Show
hosted by DJ TIM WESTWOOD accusing Westwood of being
"dirtied" by the
station's music policy.
The rapper said, "I was in Brixton today and the people
look at this show and
say, `What's Up?, they're not representing hip-hop.'
"You should pay more attention to what the people feel
about you. The political
moves you have to make to survive in this business, the
medium you're coming
through it's obviously making you dirty."
During the heated discussion, Westwood defended Radio One
for doing all it
can as a national pop station to play rap.
But KRS-ONE accused the station of playing his records
only when his singles
were in the charts and ignoring the rest of his music.
