We, the artists, worked to get a tracklisting and all other stuff set - all
the artists received a tape of all the tracks to check out and vote and came
up with a reasonable expectation of who would and who wouldn't be on - but we
are now at the stage where finding resources to produce the CD would be a
challenge.
Considering that our overall intent in doing the comp. would have been to
bring the music of the artists on the list to other subscribers, we then
analyzed (albeit at not a tremendous level of detail) alternative options in
the light of the headache and funds required to do a cd and came up with a
suggestion which we think may actually meet that end more directly as well as
provide a non-exclusive, dynamic forum for _all_ listmembers to share their
creative output with each other.
You guessed it - a web site! Though I think the premise behind the web site
should be broader than the compilation. We haven't really thought out exactly
what it should be but there are so many djs/musicians/other creative people on
the list that it seems to make sense to congeal that aspect of ourselves in
one place. Whereas Erik's acid jazz server is dedicated to the worldwide acid
jazz scene, this would be really only for us and other listmembers, though
anyone could obviously come and check us out!
We already have one person who has volunteered to design it - what I need
everyone's help on is answering these questions:
* do you think this is a good idea
* what types of information would _you_ like to see on there
* what could you contribute/would you like to be actively involved
most importantly,
Does anyone have server space?
