Dear List: The sound of the 90's is truly the sound of
istruments that have been treated with time compression /expansion and
pitch shifting usually in tandem. example take a sample at 90 bpm PItch
it down to 60 or 45 then stretch it back to its normal speed.
I have commented b4 on how i bought the Monk and canatella lp on vinyl
and played it, like a yank would, at 33. well it sounde strange at 33 so
i put it on at 45 well it still ounded weird! trip hop really fucks wth
previous notions of pitch and harmony. One day i bought Jamiroquia
last record(b4 this one with Virtual insanity) well i had been listening
t Mowax stuff a lot and it was on imort vinyl. it
was only when I heard a song that i heard b4 on a mixtape at normal
speed that i realized i had been dubbing the whole album at the wrong
speed . I thought it was a guy doing a minstrel"spade act " nd here it
was a woman all that time singing. and i wa groovin to it all this time.
