This week's TIME magazine (with "Star Wars" on the cover) has an article on
Erykah Badu, page 77. It talks about her songwriting, how she came up with
her last name (her real surname is Erykah Wright) and how she got started
(small label, aggressive promotion and a 'New York Undercover' connection).

As usual, other names of the "neo-soul" scene (basically any of the few R&B
artists who write their own material) - Maxwell, Me'Shell, D'Angelo (BTW,
it also mentions of a Badu/D'Angelo duet of a Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell
cover) etc - are mentioned, though suprisingly no mention of her vocal
similarities to Billie Holliday...

Check it out.
