i picked up ninja tune's cold krush cuts over the weekend. its a mix of
the old and the new by dj food and dj krush. the cd packaging is pretty
cool and i enjoyed the liner notes. these boyz definitely like playing
with words. check out their web page for a taste of "da lingo, ya know".
anyway, anyone familiar with the ninja tune sound will be on safe ground
here. dj food mix up 23 tracks - if you think you've heard a track
before, they'll give it a new twist mixing tonnes of tracks into each
other. i especially enjoyed the sequence
"sometimes" 2 player vs the herbaliser
"the breaks" dj vadim and mark b
"the real killer" the herbaliser
"get your head down" luke vibert
"goodbye cruel world" london funk allstars
"naked leaves" coldcut
"spiral" dj food
actually it doesn't really stop there, but there is a change of sound in
the midsection of the mix with an ntone feel to it. the breaks come back
at the end with gideon and dj food tracks.
dj krush features a head noddin' set taking heavily from the london funk
allstars and dj vadim (2 mixes of aural prostitution no less). not as
diverse as the dj food set but he still mixes heavily bringing a new sound
to some old tracks as well as introducing some new mixes.
unlike the headz2 release, this won't disappoint. these guys are really
talented and have a great feel for the sounds.
