el> where to look). It just comes down to promotion and financial backing
el> - almost all of the non-big label AJ shows here are more or less
el> self-promoted, and we don't have the money to promote ourselves, given
el> the high advertising rates of the L.A. Weekly as one of the major
el> factors. Note, though that major-label and internationally-known AJ
el> acts like GC, Incognito and BNH have had immensely packed shows. It
maybe we should be pooling our resources... united we stand, divided we're
confined to small venues... (sorry dan!)
el> also has nothing to do with "This town ain't with it" because other
el> music scenes, namely the alternative, rave and even ska scenes are
el> really the hot items here. They have lots of interest, and they have
el> lots of people who are willing to back them up - for example look at
el> all the promoters, clothing companies, etc backing up a public rave
el> event.
what about an acid-jazz/breakbeat (i.e. jungle, hiphop, etc.) rave? i heard
that moontribe put on an aj/triphop after-hours in s.m. i wanted to go, but
there were more pressing things for me, so i didn't attend...
el> Regardless of the scene, and regardless of the place, when the place
el> is packed, people will dance, when it's not, there's not that much
el> incentive to dance. And I'm sure it's like that everywhere.
see to me, dancing should be about whether the band/dj is busting fat shit.
but then, i'm a head...
