Nice try, but guess what? "Rock Around The Clock," the first
commercially-popular Rock N Roll song,
clocked in at ~180 BPM... There was also a lot of Motown (i.e. "Cant Hurry
Love") and 60s pop tunes
that was well above 160 BPM... Of course back then, DJs weren't yet
concerned with that kind of stuff, and musicians just played it cos it was
jumpin'.
I'm not going to argue for or against Jungle's marketability, but hey,
there was a time when they said Hip-Hop would never go mainstream ("Huh?
Play a portion of someone else's record in your tune? Make those funny
screechy noises with record players? Are you out of your mind?").
