beat, rhymes & laziness

i have to admit that i'm kinda tired of the "beat-bite" (weren't people
*severely* dissed inthe 80s behind that?). there are occasions where that's
mitigated by what people will do w/the same groove (not really biting, but
sometimes y'not paying attention...). as an example, the whole
n.o.w./pharcyde
thing is not really a case of biting. if you listen to each track n.o.w.
uses
much more of the quincy jones tune (forgot the name, but it's on the new mojo
club comp.), and doesn't have the hendrix sample at the beginning or the
piano lick behing the "passin' me by" vocal.
back to the original beef... there are so many records and grooves out there
that it seems to me there's no need to sample someone else's sample unless
you want to quote them (redman samples tribe in a cut because they use his
name).
i gotta go (i'm tying up the phone line) but that's my p.o.v.

p.s. what's w/that *wizack-assed* tune by puffy? at least sameple a cool
police tune (like my boy e3!!!)
