Dear list: If large segments of the U.s. are ever going to get
jungle such comprehension will come via the music genre that has akways
led the way into the mainstream: R&b . Twice this year I have heard
rap and r&B TRACKS THAT HAVE USED jUNGLES RHYTMIC APPROACH WITHIN THE
CONFINES OF r&B. aAaLIYAH'S ONE IN A MILLION AND 4 PAGE LETTER,bOTH
PRODUCED BY Timbaland have jungle turn-arounds that are actually
quite innovative. That these songs have crossed pop means that American
radio listeners are getting some jungle type vibes spoonfed them in
controlled doses. I would also recommend Timbalands work in general ,as
he is the hottest producer out there and has an interesting style(see:
SWV's Can We?) and good melodies in an R&b vein.
The second is a track on the album By Do or Die it uses hi-hats to make
a beat that in Jungle would be done on a full kit . This adds a
syncopated percussive topline that goes faster than the slow southern
style track. I know of another southern rapm song out that does this(big
mike) also a sign that some american musicians with mainstrem audiences
are digging D&b and learning stuff from it.
