Just home from the first day (of two) of the LOLLIPOP festival taking place
in Stockholm, Sweden... thought I might share some thoughts for thoose
interested...

Before anything else I must say that THE INVISIBLE SCHRATHPIKTZ is the best
fucking thing ive ever seen (sorry bout the language... its the only way to
describe it...). Theese were 3 guys with 5 turntables. Only scratching.
Often all at the same time. The result was new tunes with excellent and
amazing beatz and sounds. Ive never heard anything like this one before and
obviosly no one else around had netihter. The gig took place in a small
area with about 100 people around. And noone moved... everyone was amazed
to look at the tv-screen that showed the fingerwork at the turntables in
close-up... wow... it looked like the film was rolling 3 times faster than
normal.... In short... anyone know anything about this group??? If so,
please tell me more cause this is the most innovative and excellent
materaial to ever come out of scratching as far as im concerned...
wonderful, excellent, great... well... words fail me...

Well, I also had great pleasure in seeing TERRY CALLIER. Excellent artist,
excellent band, excellent songs and a great performance all in all.
Acctually, its a bit of a dream come true to see him live - so they day
could have ended there... but...

A second kinda dream came through. THE STAPLE SINGERS (of course with Pops
now closing in on 82 years in age...). Wow, theese people can sing for
sure. I mean, microphones are hardly needed :). Unfortunatley the sound
quality was kinda poor on this gig from time to time, and I didnt think
much of the band behind them. But Pops and Mavis was sure in there all the
way..... musical history at its best...

Well, on to DE LA SOUL - summurizing in one word - boring.... I mean how
many times is it interesting to see one guy spinning records while two
others runs around shouting "wave your hands in the air... wave em like
you..." - well, you all know the rest. No. Hip hop is nice, but not live
(IMHO of course...)

So on the more "traditional side" I saw and enjoyed Johnny Cash and John
Fogerty. Great musicians with great song material...

And there was of course the Primal Scream gig. Not much to say about it...
but fun that mr. Sherewood mixed the stuff live... cool show all in all but
not that original or interesting...

DJ:s were fooling around too. The Nuphonic Orchestra shared excellent
sounds as did Metalheadz (Cleveland Watkiss doing his thang again of
course...) along with loads of others. They are still going strong out
there.. but I had to get some rest until tomorrow (wich brings amon others:
Bim Sherman, Hungle Brothers, Monday Michiru, Chemical Brothers, Death In
Vegas, Monkey Mafia, Jamiroquai, David Bowie, Steve Earle and loads of DJs
such as the Blue Note posse, the Heavenly set, Lurent Garnier and Andrew
Weatherhall....)

so, goodnight folks... and remember... The invisible Scratchpikz are
sureley the best f### thing to ever see live... amazing!!! :)
