Dear Newbie:
You ask a good question... because you asked it. Don't let anybody front on
you or play like they never started off "ignorant" or asked a "silly
question". I still remember some of mine -- like "what is _Verve?_" I hate
music-snob-deejays who try to act like they were born with wax knowledge.
ANYWAY, now that I've stepped off my soap box and vented some frustration,
here's a starting point for you. I'm not affiliated, but check this website
out... and keep going with the links.
http://www.cmd.uu.se/AcidJazz/
Also, your background in hip-hop and reggae will make for a smooth
transition to the sweet blends of acidjazz and some more downtempo grooves
(if you like roots and dub).
About OM Records... their website address is:
http://www.om-records.com/intro.html
I don't really like the layout of the site, but it's still a groove
goldmine.
Lastly, two search tools you may find helpful:
UK Record Labels:
http://www.ukdirectory.com/ent/rec.htm
Yahoo Record Labels:
