Well, I got my eagerly anticipated "Do Unto Others" Luke Vibert single on Mo
Wax. I guess my expectations were too high or are too high for Vibert/Plug/
in general. It would probably be a great single if it was someone else,
but the title tune is below average for him; he probably did this in his
sleep. However, he does redeem himself with the 3rd track on the single
entitled "A Soft Quietude"; this should have been the single. The second
track "Dance Music" is ok. Now, I'm wondering how the full length, Big Soup,
will be. I was really counting on a solid, no filler release like "Drum
and Bass for Papa," but I don't know now. However, the graphics and the
cd graphics itself are very creative.
I got the Amon Tobin full-length, Bricolage, on Ninja Tune. Great Stuff!
When I listen to this album, I tend to think of SquarePusher; I don't
know why and know I shouldn't.
The Americanized version of the James Taylor Quartet's new one, "Creations"
is quite excellent. I'll probably listen to this more than either the
Tobin or the Vibert.
